Berwick Rotary's Short Story Competition

Berwick Rotary Club’s annual short story competition for local children normally takes place in September and October. Because of the disruption to schools caused by Covid-19 it has been agreed that the competition will not run in 2020 and 2021 but will be back in 2022.

All pupils attending Berwick schools are invited to submit a short story, usually on a specific theme. The stories are read by a panel of judges who shortlist the stories by age group.

The shortlisted authors are invited to an “Oscars-style” awards ceremony in the Guildhall on the Saturday of the Festival. The young authors read excerpts from their stories in front of the judges, as well as an invited audience of their families: this event is not open to the public.

Winners and runners-up in each of the categories are awarded prizes by the Club, with a certificate for all participants.
