The Berwick Writers’ Forum is a natural extension of the Berwick Literary Festival’s year-round commitment to celebrating words – written, spoken and performed. While the Festival brings writers and audiences together each October, the Forum exists to sustain that energy throughout the year: creating space for connection, conversation and creative practice within Berwick and the surrounding area.
Over the past year, the Forum has begun to take shape through a growing programme of regular events. Cabaret of Words, our bi-monthly open mic night, offers a welcoming, low-pressure space for writers to share work aloud and connect with others. Alongside this, Between the Lines invites local and visiting authors into candid, live conversations about the realities of writing – how it happens, why it matters, and what it takes to keep going. Together, these events are building a visible, active literary community rooted in place but open in spirit.
Looking ahead, the Forum aims to grow into a more connected and responsive hub for writers at all stages. This includes developing opportunities for peer support, workshops, shared resources and collaborative projects – including a forthcoming anthology that will showcase the voices of Berwick and its wider creative community. At its heart, the Forum is about making writing feel less solitary, and more shared.
If you’d like to be part of it, the simplest way to begin is to sign up for updates
You can also share news of upcoming courses, workshops or writerly opportunities with us at [email protected], and we’ll endeavour to pass these on to the wider community.
And if you’re interested in helping shape what this becomes, we’d love to hear from you. We’re always looking for volunteers to help grow the Forum into something tangible, supportive and lasting.
