Steve Richards: The Prime Ministers – Reflections on Leadership from Wilson to Johnson

17th October 2020, 6:00 pm-7:00 pm
Zoom Webinar

Steve Richards will reflect on the qualities and flaws of all modern Prime Ministers from Harold Wilson to Boris Johnson. He will argue that the most successful election winning Prime Ministers have one distinct quality: they are political teachers. He will also explain why Boris Johnson is unique as a Prime Minister. Learn the lessons of leadership during the stormiest phase of British politics since 1945.

Steve will be interviewed by Sir Philip Mawer. Philip is a former Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. He was appointed to the post in 2002. In 2008 he became the Independent Adviser on Ministerial Standards to Gordon Brown. Subsequently he advised David Cameron until 2011.

Steve is a broadcaster and political columnist who has written for the Guardian, Independent, New Statesman and Spectator. Having covered politics for over 20 years for the BBC, in print and on the live stage, Steve examines events in Westminster with wit and an insider’s knowledge. A presenter of Radio 4’s Week in Westminster, he is also the author of The Rise of the Outsiders and Prime Ministers: Reflections on Leadership from Wilson and Johnson. He has presented TV and radio series profiling British PMs and their achievements.
