Gwen Chessell and Judy Crow – Immortalising our Heroes

18th October 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Holy Trinity Parish Centre

Tickets £6

Two authors of Historical Biography talk about their approaches to choosing their subjects and the fascination of researching their lives. They will discuss how they bring their characters to life, ensuring they are not forgotten. Their previously unsung heroes range over time from the Napoleonic Era to the First World War and across the world from Flanders Fields to New Zealand.

Gwen Chessell

Gwen is a former medical educationist at the University of Aberdeen, now researches and writes historical biography. She has a particular interest in medical history, the nineteenth century Royal Navy and colonial history. Her biographies describe those who achieved much in their day, are now largely forgotten but deserve remembrance.

Judy Crow

( J C Alexander)
A Mansion for The Spirits of The Just  is ‘A Memoir of Love, Courage and Loss in the Great War’. It is my first book. I’m hoping to share my interest in WW1, its effects on ordinary families, my research and original sources at Berwick Literary Festival. I am currently studying for an MA in Creative Writing at Newcastle University and live in Berwick.
