What did Hadrian’s Wall do?

The purpose of Hadrian’s Wall remains shrouded in mystery. While Roman writers were remarkably coy about why it was built and what it did, archaeology provides another way to tackle these questions. The results reveal how this extraordinary monument changed the nature of life in its shadow, both in the Roman period and beyond. Dr Symonds will discuss the work behind his book Hadrian’s Wall: creating division
